Top ten languages to learn

10. Portuguese- Being the official language of 9 countries is nothing to sneeze at. This language is closely related to another language on this list Spanish. 12 % of the inhabitants of Luxembourg are from Portuguese decent making it very widespread.

9. Spanish- If you live in Mexico, Spain, or any of the other 44 countries that call this language their own, than this is the perfect language to learn, not to mention that this language boasts over 357 million native speakers making it another of the most popular language.

8. English- Nearly one in seven people speak this language which is not only in everyday writing and speaking, but also used to store 80% of the worlds information.

7. French- Tripling the number of French speakers in the world, this is one of the fastest growing and most large spread languages in the world. Also this is called the language of love. It would be a nice gesture to tell your sweetheart you love them in French for the rapidly approaching Valentines Day.

6. German- The most populated country in Europe, (Besides Russia) this country is very passionate about its culture and values. They are also mindful of their animals hosting the largest zoo in the world. However German is not just spoken in Germany it is spoken from Portugal to Romania, from Greece to Finland. Plus these guys can really hold their beer.

5. Russian- Whether you want that awesome accent, or you want to learn more about Russia's culture and heritage, this language is the right choice for you. WARNING: Learning Russian does not automatically make you immune to the effects of vodka.

4. Arabic- This is by far the oldest language on this list, being spoken for over 1500 years, that's before the Irish discovered Scotland. This is also one of the six languages spoken at the United Nations.

3. Korean- Its capital city Seoul is home to over 10 million people, making it one of the most heavily populated cities in the world. Although Korean is the national language, both Japanese and English are taught and used widely. Also, a little fun fact, South Korea's fast food eateries will deliver, that's right! You can get a Mc-chicken delivered straight to your house, just another incentive to learning korean.

2. Mandarin- Apart from the writing, Mandarin is a fairly simple language to learn, combining several different concepts and characters this is one of the most widely spoken languages, being spoken by over 1 billion people... that's right BILLION... with a "B"!

1. Icelandic- Considered to be the most difficult language in the world, with its thousands of sounds and spellings, this language is by a wide margin the coolest and least mainstream languages.
